Resource enrichment rules enrich your resources automatically. Each rule matches a set of resources with a query and applies the enrichment you define — as your resources are discovered and kept up to date, with no manual work. Use them to keep metadata consistent, such as tagging every resource in a given account with an owner, environment, or cost center.

Creating a Rule

Go to Settings > Resource Enrichment, click New Rule, and complete the wizard:
1

Basic Information

Name the rule, choose the resource type it enriches, and optionally add a description.
2

Query Rules

Add filters to select which resources the rule applies to (for example, Technology equals ACR Container Image). Only resources that meet all the criteria are enriched.
3

Actions

Choose an enrichment action and configure it. Today you can add custom tags — one or more key/value pairs, with each key used only once per rule.
Save the rule with Enabled on. It runs immediately against matching resources and stays up to date automatically.

How Enrichment Works

A rule never overwrites a value it doesn’t own. If a resource already has a conflicting value — set by another rule or by hand — the rule skips it and reports it instead.
Only the rule that applied an enrichment can update it. Conflicting enrichments from other rules are restricted to avoid conflicts.

Rule Status

After each run, the rule shows a status:
  • Completed — every matched resource was enriched.
  • Partially Applied — some resources were enriched and others failed.
  • Failed — every matched resource failed to be enriched.
Open a rule to see its matched count, last run, and a breakdown of successes and failures per enrichment.

Managing Rules

From the Resource Enrichment table, use the row menu to Edit, Enable/Disable, or Delete a rule. Disabling a rule stops it from running; the enrichment it already applied to your resources is kept.
